We still need to be in Southern California for the HVAC work. Riverside is as close as anything else and we miss our cousins, so we are parked in their driveway again. Today Randy had to drive to Corona to spend another day on a hot roof, but when he comes home there's some great people to visit with. Tonight we all went to Slater's 50/50 in Anaheim. "50/50" refers to their specialty, a hamburger that is 50% beef and 50% bacon, topped with avacado and a fried egg, and the best burger I've ever had in a restaurant. For us, the funny part is the name "Slater". Slater is the name of a tiny, old town in Missouri where my Mom grew up. Currently there are about 2,000 people who call it home, but frankly I don't know why. There is not much to do in Slater, although they do host annual Steve McQueen days every April. Steve's mom left him in Slater with her parents when he was still a little boy, from about 4 to 8, and again a couple of years before he turned 12. Apparently the quiet farm life of Slater was better for him than his mom's crazy life. I can believe that, but once you grow up, Slater is really dull.
