Boating

It rains every day now, in the afternoon or evening. And not just rain - often it's thunderstorms. That's OK, it's better than having a drought. So if we want to do something outside, we need to schedule it before the rain arrives. Saturday we wanted to take the boat out. The daily rain was scheduled to roll in around 3 pm, which gave us plenty of time, so Gary and Erin joined us mid-morning for a cruise up the lake. The water in our stretch of the canal was normal but when we turned a couple of corners, we were surprised to see that the canal was covered in green leaf debris. Bank to bank, green everywhere - it looked like we were sailing on a lawn.
The debris field hid everything under the surface but fortunately we didn't hit anything, and when we got out to the lake, the water was fine. We cruised up the lake, enjoying the combination of sky and water, sun and breeze.
At the top of the lake we pulled into Pirats Cove for lunch. They have reasonably good food there, served in a kitschy, relaxed atmosphere.
But on the way back the weather demonstrated again that it doesn't care about the weather report. Despite the early time, we could see rain pouring down ahead of us. But there was no other way to go so we had to sail right through it. We put up the second canopy which helped just a little, but everyone still got quite wet from the rain blowing in. Shorty tried several corners to get out of the rain before settling down behind the captain's chair, curled up on my lap.
