Countertops!

A couple of weeks ago Orange County Installation installed the countertops for our island and wall cabinets. They did a nice job and Randy tipped them with some fresh home-made bread, which they appreciated so much that he gave them a couple of loaves to take with them.

The countertop looked so good that we decided to let them make a topper for the raised area at the back of the island, where the outlets are. Since it took them a couple of weeks to make it, we used the time to tile the island backsplash. It needed to be built up with extra drywall, some paint sticks, and drywall mud, but that wasn't too hard.
It dried in a couple of days so Randy had time to install and grout the tiles.
The guys were scheduled to bring the topper on Thursday. On Wednesday they called Randy and for a moment we wondered if there was a problem with the countertop, but no - they wanted more bread! Randy was glad to oblige with fresh bread and cinnamon rolls when they arrived today. The guys were suitably impressed and want to place orders for the office staff when we give them a list of what's available.

The cabinets and island are really coming together, with the overhead pan racks, wine glass racks, and the custom cabinet for the big mixer.
There is four feet between the island and the other cabinets - lots of room!
