One day after visiting San Sebastion, we drove a little further east along the coastal road, through the little town of Hondarribia. It was late, starting to get dark, but there was a festival parade going on and it had some unusual participants. What the heck are these things?
We never did figure it out, but later I learned that there is an actual name for them. They are called "gigantes y cabezudos" - giants and big-heads. They come in many forms and are a common feature in many Spanish festivals.
